SimpTek hopes to create easy way to measure home energy use

A Fredericton company says new technology can not only help consumers spend less on energy, but help utility companies curb spending on running, maintaining and building power plants to meet energy demands.

Keelen Gagnon, the chief operating officer for SimpTek, said his company has come up with software that lets consumers understand and reduce energy use within their homes.

The company plans to partner with utilities such as NBPower to launch their software as part of their services.

“People don’t really understand how to save energy. We make it transparent. We allow you to see each appliance and how much it’s consuming. We can help minimize your electricity consumption by up to 15-30 per cent,” said Gagnon in a phone interview.
