A Fredericton business that recycles errant golf balls has plenty of good uses for a share of $750,000 in investment cash.

Castaway Golf Technologies is one of five finalists competing for the chance to win a portion of a $750,000 prize pot in the Breakthru 2015 competition put on by the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation.

Three winners will be chosen. They will be kept secret until they are announced at Breakthru LIVE 2015 on March 19 at the Fredericton Convention Centre.

The goal for Castaway Golf Technologies is to grow into the biggest recycled golf ball dealer in North America.

“Baby steps at first and then start taking strides forward,” said Josh Ogden, CEO of the company.

“We’d really like to … develop and get to a point in October where we say ‘OK,’ and then we’d start scaling the business and start going into California, Florida and expand across North America,” Ogden said.

“The amount of money that is given is tremendous, but we don’t want to burn through that. We want to be very conservative with that money and make sure that all our ducks are in order,“ said Ogden.

“Too many businesses get too much cash and try to grow too quick that you end up burning it way too fast. We want to make sure that everything’s sound and ready to go.”
