Robert Hatheway Named New Chair of NBIF

FREDERICTON (CNB) – Robert Hatheway, a Fredericton orthodontist and entrepreneur, has been named the new chair of the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation. Hatheway succeeds outgoing chair Al Lacey.

Hatheway is president and chief executive officer of the Hatheway Group of companies, which includes Hatheway Orthodontics, Capital Airways and Orthodontic Supply of Canada. He serves as associate professor of dentistry with Dalhousie University in the Dental Clinical Sciences Division.

A graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Hatheway received his doctor of dental surgery from Dalhousie University in 1993, followed by his general practice residency at the University of Western Ontario. He received his diploma in orthodontics from the University of Toronto in 1996.

In addition to his business interests, Hatheway is deeply involved in his profession and the community.  He has served as president of the Fredericton Dental Society, president of the Atlantic Orthodontic Association, and board member and president of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists. 

He served as an executive board member with the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, co-chaired its Economic Development Task Force and served as chair of its Physician Recruitment Initiative. He works with the New Brunswick Association for Community Living and is a member of the steering committee for the 2011 and 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey championships at the University of New Brunswick.

The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation was created in 2002 as a not-for-profit, independent foundation to support economic growth through targeted investments in research, individual companies and key industrial clusters, including information technology and the e-economy, advanced manufacturing, plastics, environmental services and the bio-economy.
