Atlantic Hydrogen developing greener hydrogen-rich energy

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK–(Marketwire – March 14, 2011) – A Fredericton company will produce natural gas that is low in pollutants and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, thanks to a new investment by the Government of Canada. The announcement was made by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, while speaking at Atlantic Hydrogen Inc.

“Our government is investing in science and technology to create jobs, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians' quality of life,” said Minister Ashfield. “This investment will provide Canadians with a cleaner source of natural gas that is better for the environment, and help a Fredericton company expand its business, which is good for our local economy. “

Atlantic Hydrogen Inc. is receiving an investment of $1,153,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program. The funding supports an innovative research and development project that will make the cleanest of fossil fuels even cleaner, resulting in reductions in green house gases and other pollutants such as nitrogen oxide.

Atlantic Hydrogen Inc. is the developer of the CarbonSaver technology. CarbonSaver uses electricity and natural gas to produce hydrogen-enriched natural gas (HENG) and carbon. The removal of carbon from natural gas by the CarbonSaver technology prevents the conversion of that carbon to carbon dioxide when it is combusted. The use of HENG as a low emission fuel in internal combustion engines and other energy applications will result in a significant reduction of green house gas emissions and other pollutants such as nitrogen oxide. Atlantic Hydrogen is currently in the demonstration stage of the CarbonSaver technology and expects to commercialize it in 2012.
