NBIF is pleased to partner with Net Zero Atlantic to offer the Emerging Concepts and Technologies (ECT) Program in New Brunswick for a second year. Grants made through this program will support the development of technologies needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in difficult to abate sectors. These are solutions at an earlier stage, requiring further validation and scale-up development as part of their path to commercialization.

Our Approach

We have partnered with Net Zero Atlantic to deliver the Emerging Concepts and Technologies (ECT) Program for New Brunswick for this fiscal year. Net Zero Atlantic is a non-for-profit agency working to accelerate the energy transition in Atlantic Canada and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The Emerging Concepts and Technologies Program in New Brunswick is funded, in-part, by NBIF’s Climate Impact Fund.

The program offers un-leveraged grants toward proponents of R&D projects in emissions reduction technologies. There are two streams of the program:

Stream I: Projects developing the conceptual, early-stage genesis of novel technologies in New Brunswick (grants of up to $50,000)

Stream II: Projects evaluating the suitability of technologies emerging in other jurisdictions for New Brunswick (grants up to $150,000).

The program is open to researchers at NB research institutions and to private companies, and full details can be accessed at Net Zero Atlantic’s ECT-NB website. Eligible expenses include salaries for hiring research staff, third party testing, laboratory supplies and materials.

Project specifics and milestones will be finalized through a contract with Net Zero Atlantic. The contract will also detail metrics for reporting.

Applications to the ECT program are made directly to Net Zero Atlantic. See the ECT Program website for details and a detailed program guide. This year’s call opens Oct. 21 and applications will be accepted until Nov. 15. Applications will be reviewed by a panel from Net Zero Atlantic, NBIF and relevant subject matter experts. Successful applicants will be notified before the end of the year and contracting for projects will commence in January, 2025.

See the ECT-NB website for application instructions.
