ChemGreen Innovation Takes Top Prize in Breakthru Competition
Smart Skin to travel to Toronto to pitch on CBC’s Dragons’ Den
After an evening filled with excitement, ChemGreen Innovation of Sackville, NB took the grand prize of $125,000 in equity investments and professional services at a gala event held in Fredericton on March 25th. Promising a new polymerization technique for the production of flexible and environmentally friendly plastics, the company is now set to launch its business.
“The event was a real winner, a sold-out crowd,” says Calvin Milbury, vice president of business development for the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation. “It’s celebrating entrepreneurship and recognizing the innovativeness of our creative talent right here in New Brunswick and that’s critical for further developing a strong entrepreneurial culture in the province.”
Taking the silver prize was KnowCharge Inc., a company with a special conductive paper that could save electronics manufacturers millions by eliminating the damage that static can cause during shipping. The $60,000 prize will help them get their business off the ground.
Smart Skin walked away with the young entrepreneur prize, also worth $60,000 in equity investments and professional services. It also won the Viewers’ Choice Award after more than seven thousand people voted on the CBC website and they will now travel to Toronto to pitch their business on the set of CBC Television’s Dragons’ Den.
