Celebrating 10 Years of Innovation: Annual Report
In the past year, NBIF set new heights for both its venture capital and research investments at a record $5.35 million, leveraging $21.3 million more from other sources.
Eleven of NBIF’s 12 venture capital investments were in conjunction with other investors. In the past 10 years, NBIF’s $12 million venture capital portfolio has generated almost $10 million in returns, all of which go back into the Foundation to be re-invested.
NBIF also invested $1.9 million through its Research Innovation Fund in 27 applied research projects. This allowed researchers to leverage $14 million from other national granting agencies. Our largest project of the year will see the price of fullerenes, the most expensive part of a solar cell decline from $15,000 to under $5,000 per kilogram!
