Trevor Hanson is a transportation engineer with extensive experience developing intelligent transportation systems and multimodal strategies in Atlantic Canada. After several disasters hit North America's aging railway system, some fatal, Dr Hanson decided to take action.
The biggest risk is found in areas known as "dark territory" not monitored by rail traffic control. Dr Hanson is working on a new video-based data recording and analysis system that could lead to real time monitoring of hazardous goods movements by rail.
One of the data collection techniques that Dr Hanson is using for this emerging project was developed by our 2013 Breakthru Startup Competition grand prizewinner Total Pave, while its co-founder, Coady Cameron was undertaking his master's degree.
