Dr Amir Kiani leads the operations of Silicon Hall, a scientific research lab at UNB. The purpose of the lab is to investigate laser material interaction, specifically those that involve micro and nano biotechnology.
Dr Kiani invented a new surface treatment for titanium implants that encourages bone and soft tissue attachment and growth. Implant rejection is painful and costly. His new material will reduce rejection and speed up healing and recovery for patients.
Through our Research Assistantship Initiative, Dr Kiani has three engineering students helping him refine the technology. A valuable and unforgettable experience.
